Waterville TG receives FCA North American Supplier of the Year Award

Waterville TG (WTG) and Toyoda Gosei North America Corporation (TGNA), the Toyoda Gosei Co., Ltd. regional headquarters for the Americas, received the Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) North American 2020 Supplier of the Year Award in the category of Body Supplier.

The Supplier of the Year awards recognize companies that have shown exceptional commitment to FCA, providing innovative and high-quality products and services.

“It is with great pleasure to receive such a prestigious honor in the automobile industry,” said Masakazu Hashimoto, TGNA President. “I’m extremely proud of all of the TGNA and Waterville TG team members for their quality of work and innovativeness, which is directly reflected through this momentous achievement.”

“It’s always an exceptional pleasure to receive such a recognition,” said Dan Dube, WTG Project Leader. “It’s a tangible proof that team work is the key to accomplish such a feat, both between TGNA and WTG manufacturing location, as well as within WTG’s departments. When your values of ownership, customer first and continuous improvement come together, it brings success.”

Award recipients were determined based on an evaluation of each company’s 2019 supplier scorecard performance –a rating system that evaluates supplier performance in quality, delivery, cost and warranty –and input from FCA senior leadership.

Waterville TG determined a multifunctional experienced team to coordinate with design team at very beginning of the development, to catch all potential manufacturing and quality concerns. Frequent management reviews allowed rapidity of execution to ensure program readiness.

During the months prior to the launch, WTG worked closely with the customer as well managing numerous engineering changes, on time. WTG listened to the customer for best practices and it helped to improve our manufacturing processes. This challenged WTG to push toward innovative technologies.

Meanwhile, TGNA and WTG continuous engineering support enabled instant feedback to the manufacturing plant. This allowed maintaining quality and securing the start of production to guarantee on time part deliveries from the launch and since then, maintaining WTG’s scorecard.

FCA recently honored 31 supplier partners across 19 categories during the virtual 2020 North America Annual Supplier Conference and Awards program on Oct. 23.

“The transformational changes we made in 2019 built a strong foundation for the wave of product launches coming out of FCA, and we spotlighted those suppliers who took their work to the next level,” said Martin Horneck, Head of Purchasing and Supply Chain Management, FCA -North America. “These are the ‘best of the best’ in our industry and they will continue playing a leading role in our collective success.”
